The month of November is a time when we remember and pray for the dead. In the Catechism, the outlining of the importance of praying for those who have died is found in nn.1030 to 1032, where the teaching about Purgatory is presented. In n.1032 it says, “This teaching (Purgatory) is also based on the practice of prayer for the dead, already mentioned in Sacred Scripture: ‘Therefore (Judas Maccabeus) made atonement for the dead, that they might be delivered from their sin’. (2 Maccabees 12:46). From the beginning the Church has honoured the memory of the dead and offered prayers in suffrage for them, above all the Eucharistic sacrifice, so that, thus purified, they may attain the beatific vision of God.” This year, the Mass for the deceased of the parish in the last twelve months will take place on Friday, November 25 @ 7.30pm.
