The Pope’s encyclical “Laudato Si” in relation to the environment and climate change

The Pope’s intention for September reminds us of the importance of creation. His encyclical “Laudato Si” is renowned as one of the great documents of our time in relation to the environment and climate change. The 24th May this year marked the 5th Anniversary of its publication. The following is the opening paragraph of the document: “LAUDATO SI’, mi’ Signore” – “Praise be to you my Lord”. In the words of this beautiful canticle, Saint Francis of Assisi reminds us that our common home is like a sister with whom we share our life and a beautiful mother who opens her arms to embrace us. “Praise be to you, my Lord, through our Sister, Mother Earth, who sustains and governs us, and who produces various fruit with coloured flowers and herbs”.

The nature of the document is introduced through the rich spiritual connection between St. Francis and creation.
