Wednesday, September 8th The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary We celebrate the nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary who brought the dawn and hope of salvation to the world. She is the true Ark of the Covenant, the Temple of God, because her body received the one Mediator.
Thursday, September 9th St. Ciaran, abbot. St. Ciaran was born in Roscommon around 512. He came to Clonmacnois in January 545 where he founded a monastery which was to become one of the most renowned in Europe. He died at the age ef thirty-three while the monastery was still being built.
Friday, September 10th St. Peter Claver. Was born in Catalonia in 1580. He was a member of the Jesuits. In 1610 he was sent to Cartagena in Colombia and he worked for thirty-three years among the slaves until his death in 1654.
