Tuesday, October 22th, Pope St. John Paul II, was Pope for over twenty-six years, from 22nd October 1978, the inauguration of his ministry as universal Pastor of the Church, until his death on 2nd April 2005. Ordained bishop of Krakow in 1958, and took a Significant part in the second Vatican Council. As Bishop of Rome he visited almost all of the Roman parishes and made apostolic journeys to 104 countries, including Ireland, 2nd September to 2nd October 1979.
Friday, October 25th, Blessed Thaddeus McCarthy, was born in 1455. His appointment as Bishop of Ross was opposed and the pope then appointed him Bishop of Cork and Cloyne. He set out as a pilgrim to Rome, he was confirmed as bishop, and he died on the way home in 1492 in Ivrea.
