Monday, 16th September, Ss. Cornelius (pope) and Cyprian (bishop) martyrs.

Tuesday, 17th September, St Robert Bellarmine, bishop and doctor of the Church. 1542-1621, Jesuit, Cardinal Bishop of Capua, was involved in theological controversies of the time. Patron of catechists. St. Hildegard, 1098-1179. Founder of the monastery of Bingen around 1150, she knew the natural sciences, was a musician and composer, a writer and mystic. Worked for the reform of religious life and the Church, she was canonised and declared a doctor of the Church in 2012.

Friday, 20th September, Ss. Andrew Kim Tae-gon, (the first Korean priest), Paul Chong Ha-sang (a catechist) and 101 others, were martyred during the persecutions of the Church in Korea, 1839-67.

Saturday, 21st September, St. Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist, the tax collector, may also be identified with Levi, son of Alphaeus, in Mark 2:14. He is said to have been a missionary in Persia and Ethiopia. Patron of accountants, book-keepers, tax-collectors, customs officers and security guards.
