The readings for weekdays follow a two-year cycle. At the moment the Gospel on the ordinary days and for some of the saints’ days is taken from the Gospel of St. Matthew. This week four days, Monday to Thursday, use this gospel and we read from 12:38 – 13:17 in the four days. They cover topics such as: “For words flow out of what fills the heart’; ‘the only sign that will be given is the sign of Jonah’; and the Parable of the Sower. The first readings see the Prophet Micah read on Monday and Tuesday and then a switch to Jeremiah on Wednesday and Thursday.
Micah tells the people that they know what God wants of them – to act justly, to love tenderly and to walk humbly with your God. Jeremiah is read up to the Thursday in the Eighteenth Week in Ordinary Time with some feast days and the Sundays taking the first reading from a different source.
