Every year we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord on the Sunday after Epiphany. Of the three Synoptic Gospels, the one it is drawn from this year is St. luke. Those three gospels have an account of the baptism of Jesus Christ and they each have a year in the three-year cycle when they are read.

After he is baptised, Jesus begins his public ministry. He proclaims the good news to the poor and talks about God’s kingdom, about salvation. What a lot of people do not realise is that when they are baptised, they are linked to the priestly, prophetic and kingly roles of Jesus Christ. Those three functions are given to all in their vocation as members of the People of God, we exercise them in different ways.
