The readings from the Old Testament in the Sunday liturgy usually tie in well with the Gospel of the day. They were deliberately chosen to do so. Over the two year cycle of the weekdays, the first reading can come from the Old Testament or from the New. Last week and this week ahead they were from St. Paul’s Second Letter to the Corinthians. The week before we started listening to Paul, they were taken from the Book of Tobit, an Old Testament book. The passages were long and if you missed a day you could lose the flow of the story unfolding. After 2 Corinthians, the next book that will come into play will be Genesis. Next week we will have a look at the layout of the book of Genesis.
