Today’s Gospel comes from chapter three of John’s Gospel. Speaking to Nicodemus we hear Jesus say: ‘God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not be lost but may have eternal life.’ In that verse we experience the Father who loves the world and who loves his Son, offer his Son for the redemption of the world. All who believe in Jesus will have eternal life. For St. John that sense of God’s love is most important. He returns to it later in the Gospel and also in his letters.
