This weekend’s Gospel passage is Mark’s version of the Temptation in the Desert’ and what happens when it comes to an end. Mark keeps it brief in comparison to Matthew and Luke. We are told the Spirit drove him into the desert. He spent 40 days there. He was put to the test by Satan (no details of how he was tested), was with the wild animals and the angels looked after him. Next he tells us John the Baptist is arrested and after this Jesus goes into Galilee and proclaims the gospel from God — the time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent, and believe the gospel. All that information is in four verses of chapter 1.
