Since it was announced that Joe Biden had passed the 270 electoral college votes necessary to win the presidential election in the United States there have been a number of times when he has spoken in public about what his hope for the future is. One of the themes coming through his addresses to the people of the United States is that it is a time for healing. When he made that point, he referred.to a passage in the Book of Ecclesiastes in the Old Testament, a passage we hear regularly at funerals. The full passage is Ecclesiastes 3:1-11. It begins with “There is a season for everything, a time for every occupation under heaven”, and then goes through a list of ‘times’ with each having an opposite. Here are verses 2 to 4: “A time for giving birth, a time for dying; a time for planting, a time for uprooting what has been planted. A time for killing, a time for healing; a time for knocking down, a time for building. A time for tears, a time for laughter; a time for mourning, a time for dancing.”
