Monday, March 4th, St. Casimir, 1458-1484, strove to promote peace and the unity of Western Europe. Though a young prince, he chose a life of prayer and penance. Patron saint of Poland.
Tuesday, March 5th, St Kieran, was born in Cape Clear, Co. Cork. He is numbered among the pre-Patrician saints of Ireland. He went to the Continent, where he was baptised and later ordained priest and bishop. He returned to his father’s territory, Ossory, where he lived as a hermit. Disciples soon joined him and Saigir became a well-known monastery.
Thursday, March 7th, St Perpetua, a young upper-class married woman, and St. Felicity, a slave girl, were martyred in Carthage, 203 AD
Friday, March 8th, St. John of God, 1495-1550, devoted his life to the care of the poor and the sick. He is patron of nurses, the sick, heart patients, printers and booksellers.
Saturday, March 9th, St Frances of Rome, died 1440, lived a happily married life and founded a society of women with the Rule of St. Benedict and became a member of it after her husband’s death.
