Feast Days

Tuesday 19th, St. Januarius, was bishop of Benevento, Naples and is a martyr and saint of the Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church. While no contemporary sources of his life are preserved, later sources claim that he died during the Great Persecution which ended with the retirement of Emperor Diocletian in 305.

Wednesday 20th, Ss. Andrew Kim Tae-gan, priest, Paul Chong Ha-Sang, and Companions, martyrs. St. Andrew Kim was the first Korean priest and St. Paul Chong, a catechist and they along with 101 others were martyred during the persecution of the Church in Korea between 1839 and 1867.

Thursday 21st, St Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist, the tax collector, may also be identified with Levi, son of Alphaeus, in Mark 2:14. He is said to have been a missionary in Persia and Ethiopia. Patron of accountants, book-keepers, tax-collectors, customs officers and security guards.

Saturday 23rd, St Pius of Pietrelcina (Padre Pio), priest, died on the 23rd September 1968. Capuchin friar, stigmatist, confessor and friend of all who suffer.
