Tuesday 21st, St Peter Damian, bishop and doctor of the Church, (1007-72), gave up teaching to become a hermit. Later, he was Cardinal of Ostia. He was an outstanding reformer of Church life and discipline.
Thursday 23rd, St. Polycarp, bishop and martyr, was bishop of Smyrna in Turkey. Born around the year 69, he was a disciple of St. John the Apostle. He was martyred in 155.
