If most people were asked ‘What is the Bible’ they would probably begin their answer by saying that it is a book. In fact, it’s more accurate to say it’s a number of different books all bound together in one volume. There are 73 distinct different books making up the Catholic Bible, or varying lengths and styles, including history books, poems, prophets, letters, stories, and of course the four Gospels telling the story of Jesus Christ. These 73 books were written and collected at different times and places, but are revered by the church as the Word of God, in which God speaks to us in a special way.
